Still Walking

At the end of my work day yesterday I looked at my total number of steps and it said 400 steps! I was astounded by how little movement I made. However, my plan to execute 10,000 steps has been to make up the differences with an evening walk at the end of the day. It’s been a lovely week of walking.

Tracking steps had really got me thinking about my movement in general and how I can make up some of those steps and movements by spacing it out throughout the day. Those suggestions to park farther away and take the stairs really do make sense. And at the end of the day if you really need to make up the rest, get off the couch and do a few more laps!

Now, would I do this all day every day to reach 10,000 steps? Maybe not. But if I averaged about 4 times a week to reach that goal I think that would be excellent. I’m about 1/2 way to reaching my 10 days of 10,000 steps. And honestly I think it has been a great experience to see how much normal movement I should have in a day.

In other more walkable cities I can see this being a no brainer easy challenge. However in a city like mine we mostly we go from car to house to garage etc. walking more has to be deliberate but it definitely is possible and now I have figured out how to do it.

If you haven’t tracked your steps before, I highly recommend you do it! It’s an eye opening experience especially if you are a desk worker.
